Celebrating 29 Years of Music at Hawaii MusicWorks!
This month, Hawaii MusicWorks is thrilled to celebrate 29 years of inspiring young musicians and fostering a love for music in our community. It’s been an incredible journey, and as an admin—and a proud music mom—I’ve had the privilege of seeing many students grow in their musical abilities over the years.
While I don’t claim to have any special insights into being a music mom, I have observed some common trends and heard plenty of questions from parents navigating the world of music lessons. If you’re new to this experience, it can be a little confusing. Many of us aren’t musicians ourselves, and we often have perceptions shaped by extremes—either outdated notions of endless hours spent practicing scales or the opposite belief that a single half-hour lesson per week will miraculously turn our kids into musicians.
The truth lies somewhere in between, and that’s what I hope to demystify in the coming weeks. Through a series of blog posts, I’ll address some of the most frequently asked questions, share insights on how to support your child’s practice at home, and explore a variety of music-related topics.
Whether you’re a seasoned music parent or just starting this journey, I hope these posts provide some helpful guidance, reassurance, and maybe even a little inspiration. Stay tuned!
